Sunday dining in Gstaad follows the Swiss rhythm — a long lunch is the centrepiece of the day, particularly during ski season when guests return from the mountain at 14:00 looking for a proper meal before the afternoon. Many restaurants close on Sundays or have reduced hours; knowing which are fully open and welcoming makes planning the day easier.
Switzerland's Sunday closing tradition is less pronounced in tourist resorts than in residential towns, but Gstaad still has a significant proportion of restaurants that close on Sunday evening or all day Monday. During ski season, Sunday is actually one of the busiest days — guests arrive on Saturday and Sunday, the mountain is full, and restaurants on the Promenade are at capacity by noon. The restaurants listed here are open for both lunch and dinner on Sundays throughout the winter season.
Hotel Olden at Promenade 35 is the most reliable seven-day restaurant in Gstaad village. Open from 11:00 to midnight daily, including all Sundays, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The Mediterranean kitchen, lively atmosphere and Promenade position make it the natural Sunday gathering point for regulars and visitors alike.
Restaurant Pizzeria Arc-en-Ciel on Egglistrasse is open daily from 11:30 to 22:30, including all Sundays. The wood-fired pizza and fondue menu makes it one of the most popular Sunday family restaurants in the village — particularly for guests returning from the ski mountain who want a satisfying meal without ceremony.
Berghaus Wasserngrat and Berghaus Wispile are at their busiest on clear winter Sundays when the ski area fills. Both are open for lunch from 09:00 on Sundays throughout the ski season. Arrive before 12:00 for terrace tables; service continues until approximately 15:30–16:00.
La Bagatelle is open for both Sunday lunch and dinner throughout the winter season — making it the most accessible Michelin-quality option for Sunday dining. LEONARD's at Le Grand Bellevue is open daily. Sommet is open Wednesday to Sunday — so Sunday dinner at Sommet is possible and makes it a particularly accessible starred table for a weekend visit.
Posthotel Rössli is open daily from 11:30 to 23:00, including Sundays. The Sunday tradition in Swiss Alpine families is to gather for fondue or a meat dish in the afternoon, and Rössli captures this tradition perfectly. The Stübli fills from 12:00 on Sundays; book ahead for the afternoon peak.
Le Grand & La Terrasse at Gstaad Palace is open for Sunday lunch from 12:00 and Sunday dinner from 19:00. The Palace Sunday lunch, with the panoramic terrace (in summer) or the main dining room, is one of Gstaad's most popular midday events for hotel guests and non-guests.
Several quality restaurants in Gstaad are closed on Sundays or Monday: Restaurant Muli is closed Sunday and Monday; Restaurant Chesery is closed Sunday and Monday; 16 Art-Bar in Saanen has variable Sunday hours. Always check before going. Our concierge can confirm current Sunday opening times for any restaurant.
The brunch tradition is less formalised in Gstaad than in cities, but several hotels offer Sunday brunch packages. The Alpina and Le Grand Bellevue both run Sunday brunch services during winter (from 11:00) that include Champagne, cold buffet and hot prepared dishes. These require advance booking.
