Private dining in the Saanenland is less formalised than in Zurich or Geneva — many restaurants will happily reserve their full main room for a party of fifteen or more, but the dedicated separate rooms are concentrated at the grand hotels and a handful of chalet restaurants. This is the working list, by room, with capacity and booking lead time.
Grand-hotel private rooms
- Gstaad Palace: multiple private rooms of 8-40 covers, plus the formal ballroom for 120-250. The private cellars are occasionally opened for wine-focused dinners of 8-12.
- Le Grand Bellevue: LEONARD’s has a private chef’s table of 6-8 directly off the kitchen; plus the hotel’s private dining rooms handle 20-60.
- The Alpina Gstaad: Sommet and MEGU can both be partially privatised; the hotel also runs dedicated private rooms of 10-24 covers in the main building.
- Park Gstaad: private dining room for 12-20.
- Ultima Hotel Gstaad: two private rooms of 8-16 and a chef’s table.
- Gstaaderhof: private room of 14-30.
- HUUS Gstaad (Saanen): a flexible private area for 20-50, often used for weddings.
Chalet-restaurant private rooms
- Restaurant Chesery: the entire restaurant can be privatised on closed days. No dedicated internal private room, but for parties of 20-40 the full room can be booked.
- Restaurant Sonnenhof in Saanen: a semi-private section of the dining room seats 10-16; for exclusive use, the full restaurant (45-75) can be booked.
- La Bagatelle at Hotel Le Grand Chalet: a semi-private area inside the main room plus the terrace for summer private use.
- The Mansard: private section for 10-20 covers.
- La Ferme Saint-Amour: the full farmhouse can be taken over for 60-90 guests.
- Posthotel Rössli: the Alti Post separate room (as distinct from the Stübli) seats 16-30.
- Restaurant Azalée in Schönried: small enough that a party of 18-25 effectively takes the whole room.
Mountain-restaurant privatisations
Mountain restaurants usually offer full exclusive use rather than a dedicated private room. Practical for summer weddings or large group dinners.
- Berghaus Wasserngrat: full exclusive use for 40-90 covers. Requires private cable-car charter for evening events.
- Berghaus Wispile: full exclusive use for 30-60.
- Berghotel Hornberg in Schönried: exclusive use up to 120 with on-site sleeping rooms.
- Eggli Lounge: exclusive use for 40-70 plus evening cable-car charter.
- Michel’s Stallbeizli above Turbach: a smaller rustic tavern, 30-40 guests, car-accessible.
- Sunne-Stübli at Turbach: 20-35 private group.
Village-scale exclusive rooms
Smaller restaurants that, with enough notice, will reserve the whole room for a private party.
- Restaurant Kernen in Saanen: full restaurant 30-45.
- Pizzeria Arc-en-Ciel: the back section seats 25-35 privately.
- Mango Restaurant Gstaad: full restaurant 28-40, useful for an Indian-themed private dinner.
- Chubut: the South American steakhouse can be booked for a party of 30-50 with a set menu.
- Restaurant Sonnenhof (see above): the terrace in summer for private group lunches.
- 16 Art-Bar-Restaurant in Saanen: 30-45 private.

The best-kept secret in Saanenland private dining is Chesery’s closed-day privatisation. Forty people, one Michelin star, an empty Alte Lauenenstrasse in winter. Unforgettable.
Booking lead times and commercial rules
- 72-hour notice: village restaurants, 15-25 people.
- 2 weeks: private-room bookings at grand hotels for 10-20 people.
- 4-8 weeks: exclusive use of a chalet restaurant or a semi-private section at Sonnenhof, Bagatelle or the Mansard.
- 3-6 months: full exclusive use of a Michelin-starred room (Chesery, Sommet closure days).
- 6-12 months: grand-hotel ballroom for a large wedding in peak weeks.
Most private rooms require a minimum spend rather than a venue fee. Minimum spends range from CHF 150-350 per head depending on the room and the night. A cancellation within 14 days of the booking typically loses 50% of the minimum spend; within 72 hours, 100%.
Logistics to ask about in advance
- Can we bring our own wine? Most grand hotels say no; most chalet restaurants will allow a limited number of bottles with a corkage fee (CHF 40-80 per bottle).
- Can we change the menu on the day? Yes for up to 48 hours out; no inside that window.
- Can we play music? Most private rooms are fine with a small speaker; live musicians require a separate conversation and sometimes a license.
- Until what time does the room run? Most close at 23:30; mountain rooms at 22:30 (because of cable-car logistics); grand hotels often run until 01:00 for a supplement.
