A wedding in the Swiss Alps is one of life's great occasions — the Saanenland provides dramatic natural beauty, world-class catering and iconic hotel settings that have hosted celebrations for over a century. Whether you are planning an intimate wedding dinner for 12 or a grand reception for 200, Gstaad has the venue and the kitchen for it.
Gstaad has hosted royal weddings, celebrity weddings and generations of European families for over a century. The combination of world-class hotels, Michelin-starred catering, a dramatic Alpine setting and the discreet professionalism of the Swiss hospitality industry creates a wedding experience that is difficult to replicate anywhere else in Europe. The valley is accessible by train from Zurich and Geneva, and by private aircraft to Saanen Airport — making it a practical as well as beautiful choice for an international guest list.
The Gstaad Palace is the most comprehensive wedding venue in the valley. The Grand Ballroom accommodates up to 300 guests for a black-tie gala reception. Le Grand & La Terrasse can be exclusively hired for 50–80 guests for a dinner reception. The Palace wedding team manages every element of the event — catering, flowers, entertainment, accommodation for guests — in the tradition of a Swiss Grand Hotel that has been doing this for a century.
The Alpina Gstaad offers a more contemporary wedding experience than the Palace. The hotel's event spaces accommodate intimate to medium-sized weddings (20–80 guests), with the Six Senses Spa available for pre-wedding relaxation and the Sommet restaurant for the wedding dinner. The architectural drama of The Alpina — modern Alpine design by studio BIG — makes it a natural backdrop for couples who want something visually distinctive.
Le Grand Bellevue is the most intimate of the three luxury hotels that host weddings in Gstaad. LEONARD's Michelin-starred kitchen can prepare a wedding banquet of genuine quality for 20–40 guests, and the hotel's various lounges and terraces provide flexible spaces for cocktail receptions and smaller celebrations. The approach here is personal and attentive rather than large-scale and logistical.
For a summer wedding reception on the most celebrated terrace in the Saanenland, La Bagatelle at Le Grand Chalet is the natural choice for a smaller group (up to 30–40 guests). The panoramic valley view, classical French catering and intimate atmosphere create a wedding reception that feels genuinely personal rather than hotel-generic.
For a wedding dinner of up to 20–25 guests in an intimate village setting, Restaurant Sonnenhof in Saanen offers 16 Gault Millau cooking on a terrace overlooking the historic Saanen church and valley. The Baumers' personal approach makes this the most genuinely intimate fine-dining wedding dinner option in the valley.
Weddings in Switzerland require a civil ceremony at the registry office (Zivilstandesamt) in the municipality where you are marrying. The municipality for Gstaad and Saanen is Saanen. Foreign nationals can marry in Switzerland subject to documentation requirements. Religious ceremonies are held separately in Gstaad's churches (Gstaad church, Saanen church). Contact the Saanen municipal office for current documentation requirements.
All three luxury hotels (Palace, Alpina, Le Grand Bellevue) can reserve accommodation blocks for wedding guests. Gstaad's broader hotel inventory can accommodate several hundred guests across the valley. The Palace wedding team coordinates guest room blocks as part of the complete event package.
Intimate wedding dinner (12–20 guests) at Sonnenhof or Le Grand Bellevue: CHF 200–350 per person all-in. Medium reception (30–60 guests) at Alpina or Palace dining room: CHF 300–500 per person. Grand gala (100+ guests) at Gstaad Palace: CHF 400–800 per person including entertainment and venue hire. These are indicative ranges — specific quotes require a consultation with the hotel events team.
Contact us with your proposed wedding date, estimated guest count and preferred venue type. We will connect you with the right event coordinator at the appropriate hotel and facilitate the initial conversation. For weddings more than 12 months away, the planning process is straightforward; for weddings within 6 months, availability depends heavily on the specific date.
