The Gstaad valley · 2026 edition
Fireplaces, candlelight and mountain views — the restaurants we book for anniversaries.
Romantic dinner in Gstaad means one of three registers: Michelin-starred formality (Chesery, LEONARD's), fireplace-chalet intimacy (Olden, Sonnenhof, Ermitage), or mountain-restaurant bravado (Wasserngrat at sunset, Rinderberg Spitz at full moon). This is our editors' list of the most romantic tables in the valley, ranked and annotated. Every one of these can be booked through our concierge; for a special occasion we will call ahead with birthday notes, cake arrangements or any other requests.
The most reliably romantic Gstaad tables are chalet-hotel dining rooms with wood fires — Olden, Chesery (which is a converted 1960s chalet), Ermitage's gastronomic room, Sonnenhof in Saanen. They have the right atmosphere for a quiet two-top on a snowy January evening. All of them take special-occasion notes.
For a more dramatic register, the mountain restaurants offer the best-possible views but require adjusting — gondolas stop running around 16:30-17:30 in winter, which means most of the mountain restaurants are lunch-only. Exceptions: special evening events (moonlight dinners at Wasserngrat, New Year's dinner at Wispile) where the lift runs late.
Cake arrangements, flowers, champagne on ice, table photography — all of this can be arranged through the concierge. Send us the details with your WhatsApp booking request. Most Gstaad restaurants can accommodate 24-48 hours notice.
