The winter 2026 season in Gstaad runs from mid-December to mid-April, with peak weeks the last two weeks of December, the first week of January, the two weeks of February half-term school holidays, and Easter. During these peak weeks the good tables book out 3-6 weeks ahead; during shoulder weeks most can be booked a few days out. Winter fondue is the essential Saanenland experience. If you only eat one dinner in Gstaad in winter, make it moitié-moitié at a chalet restaurant. Olden, Chlösterli, Posthotel Rössli and Chesery all do it well; each has its own character.

Ski-lunch berghaus is the daily-routine dining of a winter visit. Budget CHF 30-40 per lunch and you can eat at the top of a different gondola every day of the week — Rinderberg, Horneggli, Eggli, Wispile, Wasserngrat, Saanerslochgrat. The views are nearly always more interesting than in summer thanks to clearer cold air.
